2021 Honda Pilot vs 2021 Toyota Highlander

2021 Honda Pilot Exterior Driver Side Front Profile vs 2021 Toyota Highlander Exterior Passenger Side Front Profile

The Honda and Toyota brands have been competitors for generations. In fact, it’s always one of the most exciting rivalries, because their vehicles are typically so comparable to one another. The Pilot and Highlander, each brands’ respective entries into the midsize crossover segment, have been competing since the former was introduced in 2003, just a couple of years after the latter first hit the market. Unlike a lot of long-running utility vehicles, these two got their starts as crossovers, never dabbling in the traditional SUV segment. Let’s take a look at how the most recent iterations of each, for the 2021 model year to be more specific, fare against one another.

It doesn’t take long looking at the table above to see just how similar these two crossover utility vehicles are to one another. The biggest difference between them in terms of these important specifications comes right away in the first row, where we looked at horsepower. The Highlander XLE generates an extra 15 hp more than the Pilot SE, which isn’t a massive difference but does represent the biggest advantage between these two.

The second row we turned to fuel economy, where the Highlander again gets the leg up, but by even less this time as it only gets a single mile to the gallon more than the Pilot SE. In the second half of the table, we turned to space. While both crossovers do offer seating for up to 7, the amount of space behind the third row of seating is slightly different. This is the one area the Pilot gets a leg up of its own, but half a cubic foot of extra space is hardly anything to write home about.

As you can see, both of these crossovers make excellent options within their segment. If you’re interested in bringing either one home to your own garage, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us here at the sales desk at White’s Honda Toyota of Lima.
