We’ve been going over some of the important services over the past few weeks, so today we thought we’d turn our intention to one of the most important safety features in your vehicle – the brakes! You might not often think of them as a safety feature, but the brakes are integral to your safety. You should be getting them checked often, so if you can’t remember the last time they were checked, schedule a service appointment right here at White’s Lima today!

What are the best practices?

Even if you don’t think something is wrong with your brakes, it’s still a good idea to get them checked according to some best practices. Just because you don’t notice anything, doesn’t mean something might not be going unnoticed. If you can swing it, you should be getting your brakes checked out on a six-month schedule. It doesn’t have to be exactly, but roughly every six months you should be getting them inspected. If it makes it easier, just request a brake inspection whenever you get your tires rotated, which should typically be on the same sixth-month schedule.

When should I bring my vehicle in early?

There are several warning signs you should watch out for that mean you should get a jump on the schedule and bring your vehicle in ahead of time. This includes things like your vehicle pulling to one side or another while you press the brake pedal, noticeably reduced responsiveness as you apply pressure to the brakes, steering wheel vibration or any loud grinding, screeching or similar sounds as you come to a stop. These types of things are often signs that your brakes need repaired or replaced, so bring your vehicle in for an inspection as soon as you notice them.
